LiMa – front garden – west – Markgrafenstrasse –

The mixture of trees, hedges and perennials were cultivated over decades by self-builders. Over the decades of adaptation, habitats for birds and insects had formed in the dense protection of the undergrowth.

The exemplary greening in southern Friedrichstadt (urban ecology) created by the IBA Berlin 1987 in urban planning and at LiMa in particular the successful cultivation of the gardens by LiMa’s self-builders (participation) is being destroyed these days by the use of gardening companies by the owners.

In the age of climate change and the debates about sustainability strategies in our cities, we are calling for LiMa nature gardens to be species-, plant- and climate-friendly.
